50 to 100 miler
I'm training for a 50 miler in September of this year. I ran the course in 2006 and completed the trail marathon, now want to do the 50. The race is Sept. 19, 2008. My ultimate goal is to complete a 100 miler also. There is a 100 miler in early November of 2008. Would this be doable after the 50 miler in Sept., or am I being too ambitious?
I'm not an especially gifted runner, but I'm tenacious, and trail running is my absolute passion in life. I'm 47, and have had a number of knee surgeries, so I think this may be edging towards my last chances to complete these ultra distances. Any input would be helpful regarding times between 50 miler and 100 miler for a first timer in the ultra arena.
Thanks!
Brent

Brent,
See how you feel after the 50-miler. If you still feel pretty good, the goal is no unreasonable. I did my first Badwater Solo three months after my first 50. Just be prepared to change your plan if your body starts telling you it's too much.
Don't sell yourself short for being 47. That's still young in ultra running circles. The knees may or may not be an issue, but certainly your age is not.
