I see your interested in doing the Barkley. I'm going back this year for more pain, suffering and humiliation, as is Robert A. I'm sure.

You can run with the big dogs, or you can sit on the porch and bark.

Heck, I want to do Barkley's too. I wish it was easier to get information on it, such as when it takes place. They better start making the buckles 'cause I intend to finish when I get there. He he...

It took me 6 hours just to go the first 8 miles last year.

Correct you are! I'll see you there, eating chicken, yum!

You don't find the Barkley...it finds you.

Last year I made it past SOB ditch and lost the trail as it was snowing/sleeting and freezing rain (YES, ALL at ONCE and I nearly froze to death!) After a few hours of bushwacking, I found the way back to camp and stood at attention while taps was played in my honor...

As far as finishers awards, I was wondering why Jim was wearing a Franklin Mountains shirt at Badwater in '04
Then I found out it was a finisher's award for the Barkley that year.

I'm sure you have Laz's attention from your posting on the ultra list; we'll see if you get any email from him...

Let's not forget, however, that this is a Badwater Bulletin Board...I plan on being in Death Valley this summer too. I hope to see many of you there!

Dude, your not kiddin. I was almost frozen. Soaking wet and freezing. That dang snow, sleet and freezing rain turned into hail on top of the next big climb to book two after SOB ditch. I was wondering what's next? The plague? Not to mention the gail force winds on top.

I did get an email from Laz, only hours after my Ultra List post.
Apparently the waiting list is so long that there's virtually NO chance of my getting in this year. But that's probably just as well, because it's the sort of thing that needs a whole year of preparation (at least!)

On second thought, who am I kidding? I've done a whole lot of insane bushwhacking, over near-vertical terrain, in miserable weather, and in total darkness. But I still suspect that Barkley is beyond training for.
