Congratulations!

Congratulations, that is exciting. I looked on the website but couldn't seem to find anyplace showing the big dance list. My computer is really slow today so I didn't look real thouroughly because its taking forever to navigate around today for some reason. Anyways a question I have is when is the run scheduled for?

I have heard from a few people who were notified yesterday that the full roster will be made available to the public within approximately a week - maybe a little less? Last I checked from clicking on the "Need to Know" link at the www.badwater.com homepage, a date of 2/20 (or later) was given as the roster announcement timeframe.

2007 Solo Attempt

The Big Race is July 23-25,2007.  You know, the official race website, www.badwater.com has a wealth of information about practically anything you'd want to know, Steve.  I didn't even know there was so much information there until I was perusing around the other day and reading old race reports - there are even ones from the very first crossings!  I really recommend these older race reports to novices like myself; they answered almost every single question I had regarding climbing Mt. Whitney that I couldn't get answered elsewhere. 

I will more than likely be around for the Big Race after my solo cheering on everyone, particularly two special fellow Buffaloes from our Second Wind Running Club based in Champaign, IL - Tracy Thomas and Brian Kuhn.

Are you going to be there again crewing/pacing Steve?  Would love to meet you.

2007 First Solo Attempt

Thanks again Connie, I have been to the badwater web site but couldn,t seem to find the information for the new race date. I didn't have alot of time to keep looking around so I just thought I would ask. I have not gone back into the past races much but I will do that as we know any info we can gather about past performances and training are a plus. For a run of this distance with the extremes one encounters any information helps.

I do plan on being out there again this year that is why I was interested in the race dates so that I could put I for the time off. Even as a crew member training and heat acclimation I believe are important, one can not take the environment and the demands of crewing lightly. I hope to be able to meet you also, I wished I could justify going out for the solo and help out and for the big race but I don't have enough time to go out twice in one month and still have time to take my family on vacation as well. Although maybe they may be willing to stay home this year and allow me to go out to Death Valley twice, its worth a try.

Then if all goes well I will attempt the run myself in 2008 if I don't get accepted then I will atte mpt a solo. My wife is not excited about it at all. She has been in the medical profession for many years in Arizona and understands the heat effects and demands on the body and is not happy with my thoughts of trying the run. When it comes down to doing it though I know she will back me up. I guess she has learned that no matter what, I am going to continue to do crazy things so she might as well help me get through it than to resist. Besides she knows I do the research and train smartly.

Anyways It is good to see the activity on this site starting to spark up and I look forward to connecting with all my running friends and Badwater family. Thanks again for the info Connie and  I will check back later.
