I've heard/read differing accounts of what it's like to summit Mt. Whitney after running Badwater. Some accounts I've read describe it as very challenging.

How challenging did people find it to be after their runs? Provided the individual I'm planning to crew gets accepted into the official race, we are planning to summit.

Any accounts will be greatly appreciated.

C'mon, you guys! I KNOW I'm not the only one who's every summited Whitney!

Personally, I've climbed Mt. Whitney 3 times, but I didn't do it after my Badwater Solo. We had planned to continue up the trail, but the snow conditions on the trail were still quite bad (2005 was a heavy snow year.) In my state of tiredness and uncoordination at that time, the idea of putting crampons on my feet and wielding an ice axe just didn't seem like the wisest thing...

In any case, I've done the Mountaineer's Route twice, and the Whitney Trail once. If the Trail is clear of snow, it's really a very good, well-maintained trail. There are a lot of big step-ups on the switchback part. And you need to be sure you take proper clothing, since it's quite a bit cooler up there. But it's not like it's technically horrendous, or anything. And of course, what goes up must come down (= make sure you save enough energy to come down too. You can't just stop at the top. :) )

Bottom line--do your homework and be careful up there, and you should be fine.
