Tanya and I took a trip out to Death Valley over the weekend.  We have been to Death Valley two times previously , but was during the Death valley Trail Marathon (Feb 06) and Crewed for Monica Scholz (Oct 05) Furnance Creek 508.  But at those times of the year the temps were rather mild.  So with a forcast of high 80's we decided to drive out Friday night, camp and then drive the course Saturday and allow Tanya to put in a few miles while there.

Marc,

So glad you had the opportunity to get out there with Tanya.

Your comments about the vastness and beauty caused some wonderful reflection for me...

I was in a state of awe the entire time I was out there.  I just couldn't take it all in and process it fully.  I still can't.

I can't wait to return this year to be humbled once again and stand in the majesty of it all...

Happy Trails,

Connie,
Tanya and I look forward to meeting you and all of the other badwater solo entrants and crew in July.
Tanya's training has been going well, The temp's are begining to rise here in SoCal which is good  Wink.  We are only about 50 miles west of Palm springs, Ca, so as the temps rise that will be our/her training grounds.  Palm Springs is always about 15 degrees hotter than our local temps.
Good Luck in training.

Marc, Tanya a good run location that I like is a 25 mile section of Dillion road east of PalmSprings to the windmills at the Hwy 62 intersection. I have been looking for other sections of road that have less cars, but it works for me in the heat. And it is close to home, I am in Nuevo. I have been working on more road running lately. Keep up the fun while you both run. I am also looking forward to meeting everybody at the solo. Greg

It will be Diamond Valley Lake this weekend for me. There is a nice 22 mile road around the lake. I have to run with a pack because there is no water. The road is dirt, except over the dams that are paved. My wife or "crew chief" is walking Redland Half marathon Sunday. She did La Jolla Half marathon last weekend. I'll be on the sidelines for her like she is for me in Death Valley. Enjoy the desert, keep cool and drink. Greg

Been quiet here lately...I think we're all busy with life and our training.  I need to update my training log.

Have a great run at Diamond Valley Lake, Greg.

Hope you and Tanya can make it out to Palm Springs this weekend, Marc.

Where are you, Marcia and John?

I have the Kettle Moraine 100 solo coming up first weekend in June - anyone else doing a 100 as a training race soon?  Let me know because I'd like to bounce off training ideas.

Connie, thanks for the well wishes, yes Tanya and I did make it out to Palm Springs this weekend.  And Greg thanks for the heads up Wink.  We did not run the section of Dillon rd you mentioned but that info helped us get a starting point.  In February we rode the Tour De Palm Springs 55 mile bike ride which also followed Dillon rd. In saying that we used parts of the bike tour course to get some miles in.  The temp. was according to my backpack thermometer was 110 degrees (nice) Grin.
Tanya felt good and is looking forward to returning soon, maybe again this weekend.

If anyone is interested Tanya and I started a running blog, you can check it out if you like. gtmfitness.blogspot.com

Happy and Safe training to all.

Where are you, Marcia and John?
We're here! Life has been crazy-busy.
We went out to Lone Pine for the Wild West 50K last weekend. Certainly didn't get any heat training.
